The origins of the name “Tibidabo” are the subject of debate, but it is believed to come from the Latin “tibi dabo”, which translates as “I will give you”. This name is often associated with the biblical passage in which the devil offers all the kingdoms of the world to Jesus from a mountain. Although the history of Mount Tibidabo dates back to antiquity, it was not until the late 19th and early 20th centuries that it was developed as a tourist and leisure attraction.
In 1886, the Blue Tramway was inaugurated, a means of transport that facilitated access to the mountain. A few years later, in 1901, the Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor (Expiatory Temple of the Sacred Heart), a church that dominates the top of Tibidabo, was built. The construction of the temple, designed by Enric Sagnier, took decades and was completed in 1961. The arrival of the 20th century marked the rise of Tibidabo as a leisure center. In 1905, the Tibidabo Amusement Park, one of the oldest amusement parks in Europe, was inaugurated. Although it has undergone numerous transformations over the years, it still retains its nostalgic charm and offers breathtaking views of the city.
Tibidabo is more than just an amusement park; it is a space designed to create unforgettable family experiences. Attractions adapted for all ages make it a perfect place for parents and children to share moments of laughter and excitement, although the park has dedicated special areas for the little ones, with attractions adapted to their needs and desires. Magic is not only present in the attractions, but also in the shows that Tibidabo offers throughout the year. Live shows, themed events and amazing performances add a touch of spectacularity to the park experience.
